Know It Now: Which Parliaments Have Gender Quotas?

Some countries use parliamentary gender quotas to increase the number of women in government. Cuba and the United Arab Emirates, for example, use gender quotas and have achieved gender parity, with women holding half of all parliamentary seats. While some may consider a quota to be controversial, the United Nations has shown that increased representation of women strengthens democracy and leads to legislation that supports marginalized groups.
