YTV Touring Group Monroe Tunes & Contra Set - Feb 2023
Hadley Stockwell and I are the Youth Artist Leaders for this year's Touring Group, and we each got to put together a medley of tunes to teach and arrange! Hadley chose two Bill Munroe tunes, Monroe's Hornpipe and Scotland. Mine is a set of contradance tunes really popular in New England: Mackimoyle, Julia Delaney, Dad’s Reel, and Woodchoppers. Here's the group performing these two medleys at the Elley-Long Center at our February concert.
We'll be performing in Vermont a few more times before heading up on a travel tour to Cape Breton, and again when we get back at the Young Tradition Festival. Young Tradition Vermont (YTV) at Vermont Folklife programs use traditional music and dance to ensure young people have opportunities to be inspired and inspiring, to learn and teach, to perform, and to serve the communities they live in and visit. The Touring Group is an auditioned trad band of teen musicians, singers, and dancers who focus on learning traditional music and dance repertoire, performing in Vermont and then heading out for a cultural & performance tour.
