EXS 225 P3: Instructional Video
How to shoot the scene:
1: Set up the cameras and the lights. For the set up of these cameras and lights you can refer to the YouTube shorts on my page. The pro camera will have the demonstrator and narrator in the video, the consumer camera will have only the demonstrator in the video.
2: You need 4 people to do this video including yourself, a narrator, a demonstrator, and someone to work the consumer camera. You will be the director and you will press play and stop on the professional camera.
3: You will coordinate with your demonstrator and narrator about a movement that will be performed by the demonstrator and the narrator will read the directions of this movement off the back of the clapper. The movement I chose was a lunge. When shooting the director and the second camera will press play and stop at the same time, shooting this scene from two different angles. We shot this scene 3 times getting 6 videos.
4: After shooting the scene you will put away the cameras and lights properly in order to ensure they do not break or get damaged. To see how to put these items away you can refer to the YouTube shorts on my page.
How to make an Adobe Project:
For editing the video we just shot, we are going to use Adobe Premiere Pro 2025. Open this on your computer and log in. Before continuing with this you are going to get all 6 videos of the cameras and put them into a flash drive.
How to import the video:
Take the videos on the flash drive and move them onto your desktop. Rename the videos according to which take they are. After you know which videos are which take you are going to reopen Adobe Premiere Pro 2025. Select "Open Project". Name the project "EXS 225 P3 "Your Name"". In the bottom left hand of the screen there is your library that shows all the videos.
How to use Adobe to mark, cut, and synchronize the videos and audios:
1: Find the videos that is going to work best for this project. Take each video into the source window by double clicking it and it will show up.
2: The takes you are going to use for the project, click and drag them into the timeline. Put the professional camera video first and the consumer camera video second, give some space between them for editing. Click workspaces then editing.
3: Double click the first video, this will put it into the top left source video. Find the spot in the video where the clapper claps, do this by clicking "drag audio only", click and place the play head on that moment. In order to get a better view of exactly where you are placing the marker, use the circles at the end of the scroll bar to zoom in and out, zoom in and find that exact moment, place the marker.
4: Do step 3 for the consumer camera video.
5: Remove the audio from the consumer camera video, right click on the the audio and click unlink. Click the audio again then hit the delete button on your keyboard.
6: To sync the two videos, take the professional camera video and move it up one space on the timeline to video track two. Then bring the consumer camera video up underneath the other video and line up the markers, a black line should appear in the screen when the two markers are synced.
7: Trim the videos by moving the play head to where you want the video to begin, use the razor blade to cut the video, then go back to the select button, move the play head to the end of the videos and use the razor blade to cut off where you want it to end. Click the select button and then select the cut off parts of the video, hit the delete button on your keyboard.
8: At this point you don't want to lose your progress so you are going to drag the mouse over the two videos, right click them, then press subsequence videos.
How to use Adobe to edit the videos so they are on screen at the same time:
1: Double click the consumer cameras video so it shows up in the top left, click effect controls, click motion, then set scale to 50, then grab position and move it so the video goes all the way to the right. Then click opacity and make it 0.
2: Double click the pro camera video, click effect controls, click motion, move play head to where you want the effect to start. Set scale size to 50, grab position and move it all the way to the left. Move play head to where both videos are side by side.
How to add titles, text, and credits:
1: Go to the beginning of the video (black screen). Click text box and use the whole screen. Type the name of the project and your name, make the font bigger and choose what color you want the print to be. Make the duration 10 sec.
2: Add text each time the narrator says something by clicking the text box wherever they start talking, write the text, then trim the text box time so it fits for when they said it.
3: Add a caption at the end of the video, giving credit to those who helped.
4. Apply transitions to each text by right clicking it.
How to export finished video:
Click export and name file. Then upload to YouTube.
