Since last year, the waters off Yakushima and Tanegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture have seen the highest rate of catching rare fish in the country, perhaps due to the influence of warm currents. The target is mature white spotted spotted bream and spotted bream. Their power, which surpasses that of the stone bream, known as the king of the rough seas, and their sage-like wariness, have made these fish both popular and rare. Stone bream and spotted bream are known as rockfish, and reef anglers who specialize in targeting these rockfish are known as bottom fishermen. This time, we follow Fujiwara Toshinobu as he pursues his dream of catching a 90cm white spotted bream, considered a monster even among bottom fish. We get a glimpse into the world of bottom fishing, a sport for passionate men of the reefs.
