I helped a colleague carry groceries and found myself in a place that resembles a set from a movie about poor neighborhoods in Latin America. Outbuildings on chicken legs, "shamanic" courtyards, and gas cylinders at every entrance. This isn't an abandoned village; this is real Israel.
