External Hard Drive Keeps Going to Sleep Too Fast - External Hard Drive Slow to Respond Unresponsive

My Dell laptop recently had Windows 10 reinstalled. But a problem showed up shortly after I got all my software setup and I started using the computer again. I edit a lot of video projects and I was now noticing constant lagging in Adobe Premiere. Later I started noticing it in pretty much every program I was using. This didn't happen before.
Another thing I noticed is that my external drive kept sounding like it was spinning up during the lag. That's when I realized my external hard drive was going to sleep every 30 seconds. And the wake up process was what was slowing everything down or even crashing some programs. If your hard drive is constantly going to sleep like mine, I've got the fix for you.
At first I tried making changes in the Power and Sleep settings. I followed advice in multiple Google searches but none of those solutions worked. So I had to figure this out on my own and I was super excited that I actually got this resolved. If you want to stop your external hard drive from going to sleep all the time, here's what to do.
In the Windows search bar, type Device Manager and click on the result at the top of the screen. When the Device Manager opens up, scroll to the bottom of the list and expand the arrow next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Now scroll down the new list until you see USB Mass Storage Device. Right click and select Properties. In the next window click on the Power Management tab. In this window, uncheck the box that says Allow the Computer to Turn Off This Device to Save Power. Then click OK.
After I did this my external hard drive didn't go to sleep anymore and all the lagging was gone. It's so simple yet the fix is kind of hidden.
