DaVinci Resolve is the only major professional editing software to officially support Linux... but it's Linux version sucks. This has been a well known issue for a while now, but it hasn't gotten enough attention, and BlackMagicDesign needs to be aware of how bad their Linux version is for regular video editors who just want to make high quality content on their Linux systems. In this video, I go over the main pain points of DaVinci Resolve's mediocre Linux support, and how they can be fixed (atleast to some degree). It is however to be noted that while alot of these issues are BlackMagicDesign's fault, not all of them are. For the codec situation, Via-LA is to blame primarily.
From the entire Linux creative community, we love your editing software, but please fix your Linux version @BlackmagicDesignOfficial
As for my viewers, you all must've noticed how long this video took. Especially since I promised that videos would be uploaded every 2 weeks. Well... as you also may know, while I use Linux for everything that I do on a computer, because of how bad DaVinci Resolve on Linux is, and because I don't have the disk space to transcode all my video and audio files to something it supports, the one thing I don't use Linux for, and instead use a MacBook Pro for, is editing in DaVinci Resolve, but only for that of course. It is a 2016 MacBook Pro, and it is extremely laggy for even regular video clips with no effects applied in DaVinci Resolve, let alone my more complicated fusion compositions which sometimes crash the laptop. I can never playback anything I edit, which is why sometimes you may notice inconsistencies that would seem obvious to spot if I watched the video in DVR before rendering it... because I can't really play anything back... I get like 5 fps at best if it plays back, and most commonly it will just freeze and sometimes not play anything. It is really bad, and it makes my videos take forever to make, but good news, I willl soon be getting an iMac solely for editing very soon, and when that happens, I will be able to make higher quality videos much faster, but till then, I have to deal with this mediocre hardware, so I am extremely sorry to all of you for my horrible consistency and all the promises I've made that I'd get the video out early or at a certain date, nearly every single one of which I missed. I sincerely apologize.
