In this video I demonstrate connecting to a Headless Ubuntu VNC / Debian System using Vino. Usually, you can connect without fault using VNC to a Debian/Ubuntu system however should you disconnect your monitor you'll find it wont work. So, to get around this we need to install a dummy-video-driver and configure Vino (X11) to work without a monitor attached.
Follow the steps below:
In terminal:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-dummy (+ vino if you're running a minimal install of Ubuntu)
sudo nano /etc/X11/10-xorg-dummy.conf
Paste the following in the conf from this PasteBin - https://pastebin.com/DN1LSkgY
Save the file in Nano.
Finally, in Ubuntu/Debian Settings go to Sharing and Enable Screen Sharing - Switch to On, Allow connections to control the screen, require a password (set a password).
Restart and you're done.
