In this video, I’ll show you how to build a fully local ESP32 data logger for a Deye Hybrid Solar Inverter using ESPHome and Home Assistant.
This setup allows you to monitor your inverter in real time, without relying on cloud services. You’ll be able to track solar production, battery status, grid usage, power flow, voltage, current, and energy data, all directly inside Home Assistant.
The project uses a simple ESP32 + MAX485 RS485 to TTL module to communicate with the inverter and works reliably with Deye SG03 and SG04 series hybrid inverters. It may also work with other Deye hybrid models, but those have not been tested.
🔧 What You’ll Learn in This Video
How to connect an ESP32 to a Deye Hybrid Inverter using RS485
Wiring a MAX485 RS485 to TTL module correctly
Configuring ESPHome for Deye / Sunsynk inverters
Reading inverter data locally in Home Assistant
Creating a custom inverter dashboard
Optional integration with InfluxDB + Grafana for long-term data visualization
🧰 Hardware Used
ESP32 (DevKitC or any ESP32 with UART pins)
MAX485 RS485 to TTL module
Deye SG03 / SG04 Hybrid Solar Inverter
Ethernet (RJ45) cable
Home Assistant (OS / Supervised / Container)
📄 ESPHome Configuration
The ESPHome YAML used in this video is based on the excellent open-source project:
github.com/slipx06/Sunsynk-Home-Assistant-Dash/blob/main/ESPHome%20Configs/ESPHome-1P-Sunsynk-Deye.yaml
➡️ Sample ESPHome YAML link is included in the description below.
You may need to adjust UART pins, Wi-Fi credentials, and RS485 settings depending on your hardware.
📊 Home Assistant Dashboards
All essential sensors and entities are already included in the ESPHome configuration.
I’ve also included sample Home Assistant dashboards to help you get started quickly.
For advanced users, this setup works perfectly with InfluxDB and Grafana, allowing you to analyze historical data, performance trends, and energy usage over time.
⚡ Why This Setup?
✅ 100% local — no cloud dependency
