Brazil is experiencing a cyclical economic recovery, in which the economy tends not only to grow, but to accelerate. This is great because it creates more jobs and improves people's lives overall. Cyclical recoveries are important because they improve the situation, but they don't completely change the scenario. What transforms a country into a developed economy are other factors. One of them is labor productivity. People will only earn higher wages if they are able to produce more. To achieve this, we need to improve education, the workplace, and further automate the Brazilian economy. Without this, it will be difficult for Brazilians to be much richer in 40 years than they are today. To get an idea of the scale of the problem, labor productivity in Brazil today is one-tenth that of Singapore. Compared to the United States, productivity there is about five times higher than in Brazil. Compared to other Latin American countries, Brazil still lags behind: labor productivity is just over half that of Venezuela and less than a third of that of Argentine workers.
