Max Walter — Elpis 03: “Point of No Return” (Ilya Dementyev)
After the events of the previous parts of Elpis, humanity has finally found itself on the verge of extinction. The planet is ruined, orbital fortresses remain silent, and the surviving colonies wage war not so much against the enemy as against each other.
The main character, an experienced officer, receives a mission that seems doomed from the start: to travel to a distant research station from which a mysterious signal has been received. The station was believed to be destroyed, yet the signal carries information capable of changing the fate of an entire civilization.
As he advances toward his destination, the hero discovers that the signal is not a call for help, but a warning. An event is approaching Elpis — one after which there will be no way back. The station hides the truth about the origin of the threat, as well as a truth about the hero himself — his past turns out to be tightly connected to those who triggered the chain of catastrophes.
To save what remains of humanity, he must make a choice that will destroy either himself or whatever can still be called a future.
And it is here that the true point of no return arrives — the moment after which destiny cannot be rolled back.
