I changed the resolution of LG 34WK95U monitor connected to my M1 Mac mini to a non-standard unsupported one and the monitor went berserk. It goes totally blank for about 10s and shows the screen for a sec and goes blank again and the cycle repeats. It wouldn't give me enough time to change the display settings back to default or something else.
This was a pain to fix.
First I tried https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide... but it did not help.
I had to take a video of the screen using my phone, pause it when the convoluted screen was visible, look carefully where the mouse cursor was, move the mouse slightly blinded, take another video, pause the frame and adjust the cursor position again again until I could navigate my way to Displays settings preference pane and click on Default after about 20 cycles.
Once I could fix the screen this way, I installed LG's OnScreen Control and ensured that the monitor has the latest firmware.
Then switched DisplayPort to 1.4 from 1.2 in the monitor settings.
After that, I did not dare to change the resolution to Scaled with the fear that it would make the monitor back to the unsupported resolution.
Used SwitchResX to select 3008x1269 and can finally breath a sigh of relief.
Here's the final working setting and I am not going to touch that ever. https://d.pr/i/buuzh5
