Meet Frank Pickles, a 22-year-old recent college graduate with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Comic Book Studies. Standing at an average height with perpetually tousled hair and an ever-growing collection of graphic tees featuring obscure sci-fi references, Frank is the quintessential shy nerd stepping into the uncharted territory of adulthood.
Frank's life took an unexpected turn when his eccentric (and questionably sane) great-uncle Gorgonzola Pickles tragically passed away in a freak pogo-stick jousting accident at a Renaissance fair. As fate (and some highly suspect legal documents) would have it, Frank inherited his uncle’s bizarre 1970s home—an eclectic wonderland of shag carpets, quirky tech, and a suspiciously intelligent giant cockatoo named Mr. Beau.
Mr. Beau wasn’t just any bird—he was once the shoulder-perched menace of Captain Hedman, the meanest soup kitchen operator to ever ladle out a bowl of chowder. The Captain’s legendary soup kitchen met a fiery, hilarious end after Mr. Beau, in a fit of boredom (or perhaps rebellion), knocked a lit lantern into a vat of extra-greasy bisque, instantly turning the kitchen into an inferno of flying noodles and molten broth. As firefighters struggled to contain the "Great Clam Chowder Explosion of ’98," Mr. Beau calmly watched from a nearby rooftop, preening his feathers and squawking something that sounded suspiciously like “Not my fault!”
With the soup kitchen reduced to a well-seasoned pile of ashes, Gorgonzola Pickles adopted Mr. Beau, declaring that “any bird with that much chaotic energy belongs in my house.” Now, this highly social, attention-demanding bird is Frank’s feathery roommate, and he’s not shy about making his presence (and his opinions) known at all hours of the day.
Fresh out of college and with no idea how to be an adult, Frank is about to move in, armed with little more than an overstuffed backpack, an alarming amount of energy drinks, and a dream. While he tells people he’s looking for a job in cybersecurity, his real goal is to become an elite hacker—though he’s still figuring out how to do that without making it obvious. Between dodging small talk, surviving grocery shopping, and trying to keep Mr. Beau entertained (to avoid the deafening squawks of disapproval), Frank now also has to deal with his new life of keeping an eye on a possibly haunted house, a too-smart-for-its-own-good servo robot, and a bird that definitely knows too much.
Will Frank master the art of adulting, hacking, and living with an ex-soup-kitchen-arsonist bird? Or will he get distracted by trying to crack the Wi-Fi of the coffee shop down the street? Only time (and maybe Mr. Beau) will tell.
