Last Monday, a tiny crew of four dudes dressed up as pirates and snuck off to a local Bavarian lake. The goal: use our real-life filmmaking skills and the power of AI to magic up an entire pirate ship, complete with exotic animals and of course a massive ocean with crashing waves - things previously only available to the absolute maximum Hollywood budgets.
At the time, we were purposely naive. We didn't know how we'd get it done. But the AI workflows literally caught up with us (big thanks to your ComfyUI expertise, Sebastian @TheButchersBrain) and we were able to get our crazy video inpainting dreams done in just a few hours this week. It won't be long before full movies are made like this - without replacing a single actor, and still requiring "traditional" VFX skills.
Make no mistake: knowing how to use online tools ain't enough. This took every ounce of my 15+ years of movie computering. But when you sprinkle AI on top of that, it really shines!
I'm so proud of our tiny crew: Robert Sladeczek and Tobias M. Huber shared the screen and manned the AI stations with me, and Joshua Burkert for your stellar camera work in the wind and rain. Stay tuned for the full short film!
