The BLM movement has been the center of much discussion in 2020 and has become politicized. For that reason, it would be interesting to look at it's popularity across the nation.

In this project, I'm exploring the social use of BLM (Black Lives Matter) through the Twitter platform. I'll be extracting the use of "BLM" over 1 day, and mapping it's popularity throughout the country. I'll be collecting data for the 75 most populated cities, per 2018 census data. I'll use the census data to create a list of target cities, then use MapBox reverse geocoding to extract geo coordinates of these cities. I'll use these coordinates to run a geospatial search of Tweets by location. I'll narrow and refine my Twitter results to 'city residents' by further filtering Twitter results by User Profile Location data. Finally, I'll do an quantitative comparison to the use #StopTheSteal across the country.
