By connecting a steel wire or the blade of a tool to the positive pole and immersing them in a sodium chloride solution (table salt) by passing a strong electric current through them in this case to accelerate and shorten the video, the wire becomes sharp and the tool becomes sharp thanks to the corrosion caused by the chlorine that develops around the metal, the electric field lines in the electrolyte act with a natural geometry that favors the formation of the tip creating a greater concentration of current on the sides therefore greater development of chlorine.
Using appropriately positioned negative electrodes (instead of the metal basin) and using shielding, targeted results can be obtained.
The temperature of the piece to be corroded does not exceed 70÷80 °C
This video is only a rough and quick demonstration, in the past this method was used for the processing of sewing needles, finishing of phonograph styli, and production of contact electrodes in the first transistors.
