Toulouse Lautrec immersed himself in Impressionism early in his career and befriended Edgar Degas and Vincent Van Gogh. An assiduous visitor to cabarets, notably the Moulin Rouge, and the brothels of Montmartre, he became famous for his numerous portraits of prostitutes and dancers. He is also passionate about the circus, with its shows of moving bodies, the athletic performances of artists and the postures of animals.
