Back pain is a very common complaint and can have various origins, including muscle, bone, nerve, and even urological problems. Among the urological conditions that can cause back pain, the most common are:
Urinary Tract Infections: These infections can cause pain in the lower back or pelvic area. The pain is usually accompanied by other symptoms, such as fever, chills, pain when urinating, and cloudy or bloody urine.
Kidney Stones: Kidney stones are hard crystals that form in the kidneys due to an excessive accumulation of certain minerals. When these stones try to pass through the urinary tract, they can cause intense pain that usually starts in the back, under the ribs, and can radiate to the groin. The pain is usually accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and blood in the urine.
Tumors: Although less common, tumors in the kidneys or bladder can cause back pain. The pain is usually constant and does not improve with rest. Tumors can also cause other symptoms, such as unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and blood in the urine.
Kidney Cysts: Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form in the kidneys. In most cases, they do not cause symptoms, but if a cyst grows too large, it can cause back or side pain, as well as fever and bloody urine.
Pyelonephritis: It's a kidney infection, usually caused by a urinary tract infection that has spread to one or both kidneys. Back or side pain, along with symptoms such as fever, chills, pain when urinating, and vomiting, may indicate this condition.
If back pain persists, is very intense, or is accompanied by other symptoms, such as fever, chills, pain when urinating, bloody urine, nausea, vomiting, unexplained weight loss, or fatigue, it's important to seek medical care. These could be signs of a urological condition that requires treatment. The doctor will be able to make an accurate diagnosis and suggest the appropriate treatment.
