Balaklava Blues - Hand in hand
Balaklava Blues are releasing a music video to the song “Hand in Hand”, inspired by the free time during quarantine, caused by the virus COVID-19. In this video, people from different parts of the world, weirdly wash their hands to save them and their families from the illness. Videos from India, Mexico, England, Ukraine, Iraq, Hungary, Belarus were collected by Marichka Marczyk, musician and vocalist of the band Balaklava Blues, by posting on her feed on Facebook and asking everyone to use their phone to film and send a short video of them washing their hands. No matter where you live.

First to react to my post on Facebook and to send their video was a girl from China.We found it very symbolic, because first people to not have any freedom and choice due to corona virus were people from china. Videos of hands were coming from all over the world, from people with different abilities, different age and different jobs. In some of those videos there are hands of soldiers , that even to this day decide to not stay home and go fight and protect Ukraine in the trenches. Their hands are soaked with our land, that are impossible to wash off by pouring water on them from a water bottle. Because they have to save that water
Incredibly heartwarming story was a story of a person who is a senior, disabled and is a volunteer, who has been making belts and underwear for the soldiers for 6 years. He does not own a phone with a camera. And he sent me a very detailed description of him washing hands, when the virus came to Ukraine. Another unique video, that was included in the music video, was a video of small baby hands that was holding a bar of soap for the first time for our video.”

The song “Hand in Hand” written for the premiere of Belarus Free Theatre's Dogs of Europe at the legendary Barbican Centre in May. Knowing that BFT supports and explores the human experience in their work, we decided to use a fragment of the soundtrack in support of those in isolation due to the Covid19 crisis.

Марічка Марчик, Balaklava Blues: “Миття рук з милом – це те, що зараз об’єднує людей всього світу у боротьбі з нищівним вірусом. Це те, що нас захищає. Це наша зброя.
Першою відгукнулася на мій пост в фейсбуці і надіслала відео дівчина з Китаю. Нам здалося це дуже символічним, бо першими несвободу пересування та вибору через коронавірус відчули саме жителі Китаю. Відео рук посипалися з усього світу, від людей різних рівнів достатку, різного віку, різних професій. Серед них є руки військових, які сьогодні вибрали не заточити себе вдома, а захищати Україну в окопах. Руки їхні пропитані нашою землею, їх майже неможливо відмити, поливаючи себе з пляшки. Бо воду їм доводиться економити.
Надзвичайно щемливою є історія людини похилого віку, інваліда, волонтера, який вже 6 років шиє пояси та нижню білизну для військових. В нього немає телефона з камерою. І він надіслав мені опис, дуже літературний, як саме він миє руки зараз, коли вірус прийшов в Україну. Ще одне унікальне одне відео, яке увійшло до цього кліпу – це коли маленькі дитячі ручки вперше тримали в руках шматок мила для наших зйомок “Hand in hand”.
“Hand in hand”- лірична народна пісня з Дніпропетровщини, створена до вистави “Собаки Європи” (Dogs of Europe) Білоруського Вільного Театру (BFT). Знаючи, що BFT підтримує та розвиває ідеї гуманізму в світі, ми вирішили використати фрагмент саудтреку цієї вистави, щоб підтримати тих, хто зназодиться в ізоляції через коронавірус.
