How to Add a Photo into Text in GIMP - GIMP Tutorial for Beginners
In today's video, I'm going to teach you how to add a photo into text in GIMP, perfect for beginners eager to explore creative typography with images. To kick things off, we'll start by typing out the text. Choose a bold font to make sure your design stands out and has enough presence to display the photo well. A thick, bold font works best as it provides ample space for the image details to shine through the letters.
Once your text is ready, the next step involves placing your photo on a new layer above the text. You can do this by dragging your desired image into GIMP and positioning it in a layer right above the text layer in the Layers panel. Ensure that your image is large enough to fully cover the text you've typed. You can resize or adjust your image as needed, ensuring it fits perfectly on top of the text without losing any crucial details you wish to highlight.
Now that your photo is in place, it’s time to make the magic happen. Right-click on the text layer in your Layers panel. From the drop-down menu, select ‘Alpha to Selection.’ This action will create a text-shaped selection on your image, essentially outlining the text using moving dotted lines, also known as marching ants. Alpha to Selection is a powerful tool in GIMP, as it allows you to select elements based on the non-transparent pixels of a layer.
