[...] We were all surprised. We expected fanaticism and a lack of criticism. After all, they fought well and with great dedication. When they had exhausted all their arguments, they began to ask to be incorporated into Polish units – this is how Colonel Adam Epler recalled the interrogations of Soviet prisoners in September 1939.
