In this quick hands-on lab, I demonstrate how to perform basic network host discovery using ping and Nmap across both Windows 10 and Kali Linux 💻🐧

We start by identifying IP addresses using simple commands like ipconfig on Windows and ifconfig on Kali Linux.
Then we verify host availability using ping.
Finally, we explore two important Nmap host discovery options:
nmap -Pn, which treats the host as online and skips ping checks 🚫📡
nmap -sn, which performs a ping-only scan without scanning any ports 🔍

What you’ll learn in this lab 👇

How to find your system’s IP address on Windows and Kali
How to confirm if a host is alive using ping 📶
How Nmap host discovery works
The difference between -Pn and -sn in Nmap
How attackers and defenders identify active hosts on a network 🛡️

This is a great beginner-friendly introduction to ethical hacking, network scanning, and Nmap fundamentals 🚀
