Many companies, especially battery manufacturers and importers, are organizing environmental campaigns that rightly demonstrate that batteries are excellent products in terms of the possibility of recovering the raw materials from which they were made.

However, today we need to take the next step, which will allow us to elevate our educational efforts to the level at which they should have started.

The opportunity to save not only the money you spend on another battery, but also the energy required to produce it, rests in your hands.

Without much time, energy, or money, you can double the lifespan of your battery by devoting just 5 minutes to its use before each summer and 5 minutes before each winter.

If you can do it yourself, if not, go to a battery specialist or a trusted garage that knows about batteries.

1+
Check the resting voltage on your battery;

The correct voltage is 12.55 to 12.8V.
This is the resting voltage before starting the engine,

after it has been sitting for several hours.

2+
Check the voltage drop at the starter motor while starting the engine.

If you see a value below 8.5V, thoroughly check the battery and starter.

3+
Check the voltage reaching the battery from the alternator,

which should be between 14-14.4V in most cars on Polish roads.

There are also older cars whose systems

were designed to supplement the current in antimony batteries. In these cases, the voltage often doesn't exceed 13.5-13.8V.

Which will be a low voltage for new batteries, most often based on lead-calcium alloys. However, you are not helpless here either. A classic car simply needs a thorough charge every 3 months from an external power source, such as a battery charger.

4+
If possible, check the electrolyte level and its density. Replenish any losses with distilled water.

5+
Keep the battery and battery terminals clean.
These should be cleaned with fine sandpaper or a special brush. The terminals placed on the battery terminals should also be cleaned internally.

6+
The key to extending the life of your battery is charging.
If you do this at least twice a year,
I guarantee that the battery will reward you by doubling its lifespan.
Remember to charge with proven chargers or rectifiers.
Fluid electrolyte batteries require higher voltages in the final phase of charging at low currents.
While AGM or GEL batteries are very sensitive to high voltages.

The charging parameters for your battery are specified in the warranty card.
If you don't know how to do this, seek out reputable sources,
especially those where professionals aren't afraid to share their knowledge. they see their own.

High temperatures damage batteries, and a healthy, well-charged battery
in which the electrolyte has been mixed during charging will provide you with significantly better heat dissipation, making corrosion processes
occur slower and less intense.

Low temperatures only reduce battery efficiency,
and a significant portion of battery replacements in winter are not caused by
the battery being damaged or worn out,
the battery was simply undercharged. Charge your battery before winter, and it will withstand even very low temperatures,
and you'll gain the comfort of not having to freeze while waiting for assistance.

7+
If you only use your car in the city for short trips,
I recommend checking your battery every 3 months.
If you can't do this or don't have the space,
go to any specialist who will help you diagnose
and charge your battery if necessary.

If you occasionally drive longer distances, at least 100 km or more,
it's enough to check your battery before each summer. and winter

8+
If you're choosing a battery, do it wisely.
Look for independent tests
that show how it is
not how it could be.
Choose the best battery possible.
Avoid cheap batteries,
especially for diesel vehicles.
Rely on knowledge from reliable sources.
And trust a specialist.
You'll recognize them by their approach to the battery and to you.

And this is a pro-ecological approach.
Buy good ones.
Make sure they last a long time.
This will reduce raw material and energy consumption,
and use the money saved for a better quality of life.
