Vidcon Reflections
Hey YouTube it's Urgo and obviously you can see that I'm back from vidcon now, especially since it was over a week ago. Anyway over the past week I've been decompressing and reflecting on the event and I've decided it was exactly what I expected it would be, and that's not exactly a good thing.
First off, the good.
I did get a chance to re-connect with a lot of friends from The YouTube Orbit and other places on YouTube. That was a lot of fun. Also there were a couple of really good panels that I did get a lot out of such as the green screen & studio panel as well as the special effects panel.
On the other side though most of the panels & presentations seemed to be more of a advertisement for the creators channel or just touching the surface of whatever topic was covered then really something useful. Yes some of the presenters did really try to connect with their viewers but a good number of people just showed videos rather then connecting and that was really disappointing.
Then there was the fact of scheduling. They tried to jam pack so much in that things were always running on top of each other and there hardly was even any time to just visit with friends. For example I had good intentions to film a colab video at vidcon and beyond getting the idea out nothing happened just because there was so much we had to attend.
Lastly, though I didn't go there for this but I know a lot of people did go to vidcon to meet the big youtubers and get an autograph or picture or what not. They had a couple of these meet and greet sessions and they had HUGE lines and during each session you had to pick one of three people to visit. If you weren't one of the lucky few to get in before they locked you out good luck meeting the stars since must of them kept to themselves outside of these sessions and their stage sessions.
So in short, yes vidcon was exactly what I was expecting and the reason I didn't go last year. Am I upset at attending? Not really, I did have a good time, but I just hope that vidcon doesn't kill the smaller, free, and more social of gatherings that I've been to over the years such as 777, Yo'Tube, 789, PattyTube, and coming up at the end of the month the gathering I'm hosting, OuterTube.
