What is CASUAL WORKER | Ncert for UPSC

A casual worker is someone who is hired on an as-needed basis and has a temporary employment contract. Casual workers are often employed in industries like retail and construction. Some examples of casual workers include:

People on zero-hour contracts
People on short-hour or guaranteed minimum hour contracts
Self-employed or freelance workers
Contractors or sub-contractors
People on fixed-term or term-time contracts

Casual workers have limited rights and benefits, and little or no job security. This is because there is no stable, ongoing relationship between the employer and the worker. The employer is not obligated to offer work, and the worker is not obligated to accept it.
