Justice League Unlimited: The canary vs the wild Cat
The Premise
Black Canary notices that her mentor and father figure, Wildcat (Ted Grant), has been skipping Justice League duties. She discovers that he has become addicted to the adrenaline of Meta-Brawls—an underground, illegal fighting ring where individuals with superpowers or enhanced abilities fight for sport.
The Conflict
Wildcat is the reigning champion of these brawls, which are run by the villain Roulette. He feels obsolete in a world of god-like beings and uses the fights to prove he still "has it." Black Canary, fearing for his life, enlists a reluctant Green Arrow to help her pull Wildcat out of the ring.
The Resolution
To save Wildcat, Black Canary is forced to challenge him to a fight. However, Roulette raises the stakes by pitting Wildcat against Atomic Skull in a lethal match. Green Arrow helps Canary orchestrate a plan: they use a sedative to fake Black Canary’s "death" during a sparring session with Wildcat. The shock of "killing" his protege snaps Wildcat out of his obsession, leading him to quit the Meta-Brawls and return to the League.
