What happens when a 26-year-old virgin battles her own subconscious in a drug-soaked, art-house slice of Manhattan sleaze? 'Blue Ecstasy in New York' — an underseen psychodrama from Kemal Horulu, the renegade filmmaker behind 'Never Sleep Alone' and 'When She Was Bad'.
Lesllie Bovee gives a career-best performance in dual roles as Veronica and her lascivious alter ego Ronnie, with trick photography, body doubles, and mirror acting that still holds up. This one’s a moody, slow burn — soft-spoken, existential, and shot on gorgeous 35mm (with a LOT of cocaine). Samantha Fox co-stars, mostly shirtless, and Eric Edwards and Jamie Gillis round out the cast as two wildly different love interests.
Behind the camera: cult cinematographer Joseph Mangine (Alligator, Swamp Thing, Neon Maniacs) delivers one of his most intimate and stylish visuals.
