In this video I show how to use a proxy in Janitor AI and set it up correctly in 2025. This method works for public proxies, custom proxies, and OpenAI-style reverse proxies that let you chat without using your own API key.
What you’ll do:
Open Janitor AI Settings
Go to API or Model Settings
Select Custom / OpenAI-Compatible
Paste the proxy’s base URL
Enter the model name exactly as required by the proxy
Save settings and refresh Janitor AI before chatting
Quick tips:
If the bot doesn’t reply, the proxy model name is usually incorrect
If you get “failed to fetch,” the proxy URL is wrong or offline
Some free proxies go down often, so switching to another one may fix everything
Always refresh Janitor AI after saving new proxy settings
