Diagnostic hysteroscopy is an endoscopic examination that allows for viewing of the inside of the uterine cavity and cervical canal. This video explains when it is indicated, how it is performed, and why it can be useful in the presence of abnormal bleeding, ultrasound suspicions, or infertility.

The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting, without anesthesia and generally without a vaginal speculum, with a thin instrument that allows viewing of the inside of the uterus. Subsequent symptoms, if present, are usually mild and transient.
