Not many people starting out with WordPress website creation know that there are two different versions. It's important to know this beforehand so you make the right choice.
The biggest difference between the two versions is where WordPress is hosted. Think of WordPress.com more as a host, because they take care of everything for you. If you choose WordPress.com, you'll have to arrange a domain name and hosting package yourself.
If we're not so much looking at hosting, there's something else that stands out. WordPress.com is significantly more limited than WordPress.org. You can reduce these limitations by gradually increasing your fees, but in many cases, this will cost you more than choosing WordPress.org.
In short, WordPress.com is best if you're looking to have a website purely as a hobby and don't have extensive future plans. You can start with WordPress.com for free. However, you won't get your own domain name, and you'll get a subdomain that falls under WordPress.com.
If you want to start a blog, a business website, an online store, an online learning environment, or something else, WordPress.org is almost always a better choice. You can easily install plugins (features) on your website and have much more design options.
