Patssi Valdez, an American Chicana artist raised in East Los Angeles, drew inspiration from the activism in her community to pursue art. Along with three peers, she co-founded Asco, a Chicano performance art group formed in response to racial discrimination. Through her work, Valdez sought to showcase the beauty of Chicano culture. While celebrated for her artistic contributions, she is perhaps best known for a photograph taken outside LACMA, where she stood beside graffiti protesting the museum's exclusion of Chicano art.
