Treant Protector is OVERPOWERED in 7.40c Dota 2
Treant Protector is the best Hard Support right now. If you’re not spamming Treant Protector right now, you are missing out on the easiest wins with the chillest gameplays. Right now, the hero sits on a whopping 56% winrate at the highest rank and it’s all thanks to his new Living Armor but also his new Aghs Shard is essential. Let’s break it down.
So in 7.40 and 7.40b, Treant Protector had all his abilities reworked. Nature’s Guise gains back its invisibility but only when you want to activate it. His Leech Seed is now a passive where he deals bonus damage and he roots his target upon attacking them. Most notably is his Living Armor ability becoming one of the strongest early-game damage blockers and healing in the game. For starters, they doubled the healing at max level, they reduced its duration and instead of giving armor, it now blocks 120 of ALL PLAYER-CONTROLLED DAMAGE and each time it blocks damage the effect is decreased by 20 each time at max level.
So what the heck does that mean? Well it sounds complicated but it’s not. First, it means that Living Armor won’t block damage any damage that isn’t coming from a player. So towers and and creep damage definitely don’t count and that means that your ally target will still be regenerating health. Second, if an enemy hero’s singular spell or attack is 220 damage, Living Armor will block 120 damage of that and the next spell or attack will only be blocked by 100, then 80, 60, etc. So really, Living Armor is blocking 420 damage across 5 hits all the while giving health regeneration. And don’t forget that Living Armor can still be cast globally and works on towers. Oh, did I forget to mention that Living Armor scales at Talent 10 and 20 for even more health regeneration and damage block?
So nowadays, Treant Protector is an early-game menace with no real downsides. His current build has him both being a menace in the lane all the while healing his teammates any time, anywhere. And his early-game offensiveness is fairly easy to pull off. For starters, his Nature’s Guise comes with a free invisibility that can be activated whenever you want. So positioning to slow the enemy Offlaners is convenient. Second, his Leech Seed no longer has a mana cost, so Treant Protector doesn’t suffer from mana issues like he used to. And lastly, Living Armor costs only 55 at max level which means you can cast 8 of them back-to-back and still have some mana left over.
His mid-game is even better because your map-pressure is tough to beat. His new Aghs Shard doubles his observer wards where he can place Eyes in the Forest across the map all the while staying invisible with Nature’s Guise and they last about one minute less than an Observer Ward. So getting allies to gank is far easier when they can see the whole freakin’ map and time is saved when you know where your enemies have been or where they’re going. You can even ward inside Roshan with a nicely placed Eyes in the Forest.
Lastly, Treant Protector doesn’t really need any items. Just Blink Dagger and maybe Aghs Shard. You could go other support items like Solar Crest or Guardian Greaves but that’s up to you.
Now the downside to this hero are plenty. Anyone that messes with the trees makes Treant cry. Heroes like Hoodwink or Timbersaw all make Treant Protector as useless as a Christmas Yule Log in summer. These kinds of heroes make Treant Protector less offensive during laning and beyond where he’s just so easy to catch and punish.
