HashiStack Tools Nomad Consul Vault Terraform
This is the final video in our 4 video series talking about HashiCorp tools from the developer's perspective.
In this video, I walk you through how these tools work together. Once again, I'm using the webblog app to demo this.
Below are the steps that we show in the demo:
1. Webblog app no mesh deployed on Nomad via Terraform
2. Consul services and Nomad job
3. Webblog app with consul connect service mesh on Nomad deployed via Terraform
4. The app is initially broken because of intentions
5. Consul services with envoy proxy and Nomad job
6. Vault supplies Dynamic database creds and encryption
7. ACL tokens are used in Nomad and Consul for security
Finally, below is a summary of how the entire HashiStack was used:
TF to deploy a Nomad and a Consul cluster using Packer images
TF used to configure Vault and to run jobs in Nomad
Vault is used to supply dynamic database secrets to the application in addition to encrypting the content of my posts
Nomad is used to run the application
Consul used for all things networking including running a service mesh
