This tutorial explains QUIC, a modern secure transport protocol used by HTTP/3. I discuss why QUIC was introduced, how it works over UDP, its main transport features, important packet types and frames, TLS 1.3 integration, security risks, and scalability.
I also perform a hands-on Wireshark analysis using my own QUIC packet capture. The practical section demonstrates:
QUIC Initial packets and Version 1
CRYPTO frames and a TLS 1.3 Client Hello
Source and Destination Connection IDs
Protected 1-RTT traffic and Short Headers
QUIC communication over UDP port 443
The aim of this tutorial is to connect QUIC theory with real packet-level evidence and show how the protocol behaves in practice.
