Despite the quaint charm of Garden City or the fact that hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the eerie blue waters of Bear Lake every year, there is a dark, mysterious secret swimming below the surface. The Bear Lake Monster has always been shrouded in mystery, and rumors of a monster have been floating around since at least the 1800s. Stories were passed down by early pioneer settlers and maybe even the native people before them. This documentary explores the history, science, and reported sightings surrounding the Bear Lake Monster.
Joseph C. Rich was the first pioneer settler to report sightings of a monster to the Deseret News. Little did he know that Bear Lake is estimated by scientists to be millions of years old. Bear Lake has four endemic fish species that are not found anywhere else in the world and some feel it's very likely there are undiscovered species, maybe even some sort of monster. The latest reported sighting that we know of occurred in 2018 and all the details of that sighting are featured in this video. Does the Bear Lake Monster really exist?
