What is HAC?
What is the Housing Assistance Council, and what has our work meant for rural communities?
In the late 1960s and early 70s, more than one-fifth of the rural population lived below the poverty line, and over 3.5 million houses were considered substandard, many without indoor plumbing.
The Housing Assistance Council, or HAC, was formed in 1971 to address these issues. HAC believes that solutions to poverty start with a safe, affordable, home. Since 1971 HAC has helped community based organizations build homes and empower rural people.
