REST APIs and RES-LAT are both methods to integrate with NetSuite. While REST APIs support various integration methods, including SOAP, RES-LAT is a script type to connect NetSuite with any application using REST APIs. REST APIs can be used within RES-LAT, and RES-LAT can support either JSON or XML as the response format.
The four entry points supported by RES-LAT are GET, DELETE, PUT, and POST. GET is used to retrieve information, PUT is used to create a record, POST is used to update a record, and DELETE is used to delete a record.
In order to connect with an external application using RES-LAT, you must share the URL and a token with the third-party application. When this is done, the RES-LAT script triggers, and the specified actions can be performed in NetSuite. The response is always returned in JSON format.
REST services for token-based authentication are also available. The admin or developer working on the external application manages this information and can generate and revoke tokens as needed.
