When i got the new Wolverine guidebook for Joshua Tree, i saw this new-ish climb: Way of Life, the picture is epic with a heel hook and all... but actually climbing it that heel hook is all for show, you totally dont need it (OBVIOUSLY proved defective by my almost fall when i tried to heel hook in that area). There is like railing for your feet throughout the whole climb and its bomber. Its pretty intense the first clip (which you can put protection before the first bolt, but its still like 3 ft down from the 1st bolt) yea the first clip is probably 45ft up from your belay. But there are shelves and if you dont fall on 5.3 you should be fine lol.
have to complain a little bit because the route was not clean and the anchors had nylon webbing for the upper hangar. Part of a section is a jug rail, but it doesnt help when theres kitty litter choss all over the holds... so i spent a good amount of time going back and brushing off the holds that desperately need cleaning.
but cheaaa fun climb, clean falls, major rope scrapeage when lowering or falling in some areas.
