This is my first nightscape photography adventure of 2026 and one of my most challenging astro shoots yet just because of the bugs!
In this vlog I head out to a local farm area in the Scenic Rim of Queensland, Australia, to photograph the Milky Way and the Large Magellanic Cloud using a tracked sky and light-painted foreground.
I walk through how I polar align my Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer tracking mount, how I capture a clean foreground using light painting, and how I shoot and stack 38 x 1-minute tracked exposures for the night sky.
Camera gear used:
– Sony A7R IV
:– Full spectrum modified Sony A7
– Sigma 16–28mm f/2.8
– Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer
The conditions were far from perfect — bugs everywhere and humidity — but the final blended nightscape made it all worth it.
