no sound at all

when timber falls
does it make a sound
nature's conundrum
of some renown
our primal forest
a state of appall
there is no timber
so there is
no sound at all

forests vanquished
harvested in the whole
no branch remains
saps me to my soul
natures' dwellers
wildlife left alone
excluded, exiled
do not condone

will the new growth
regenerate the wood
needs time to grow
a fact misunderstood
there is no cover
water charges downhill
through disturbed soil
no thicket to distill

trees, living beings
imbibe water, sun
then, of course, Co2
life cycle begun
photo-synthesis
action complete
exudes oxygen
my cache replete

no trees standing
they are clear-cut
think of this pillage
there is no rebut
my mind is astounded
forests turned to lies
the big man inured
to that gainful guise

when timber falls
does it make a sound
nature's conundrum
of some renown
our primal forest
a state of appall
there is no timber
so there is
no sound
at all
