[2.11] RainGun by Moonlchan
I've been watching Moonlchan improve over the past several months, and I must say, this is by far their best! Moonlchan is known for making levels based on the 1.9 update, and they're all executed better each time.
As the name suggests, RainGun is a rainbow themed 1.9-style level. Back then there were limits on the amount of color/effects you were able to do. Doing that with today's editor is difficult to say the least. Moonlchan took up the challenge, and I have to say, it can compete with more modern day levels.
One aspect I adore about this level is that there's no shortage of liveliness. The rainbow effects keep you engaged, and I find that these effects are varied enough as well. There's never a dull moment despite limitations of 1.9. My personal favorite part is at 0:35, where the glow effect makes some of the air decoration pop-out, that I thought was ingenious! c: If I could change one thing, it would be the 'Nine Circles' esque part at 1:18. It doesn't add much charm to the level as a whole, and can be an eyesore, given how flashy and un-readable it can be. It's also toward the end, so I believe it was just a rushed addition.
Gameplay is also relatively fair. Though no visual indicators, I find it straight forward enough to learn without practice mode. If I were to change one aspect it would definitely be transitioning. Some gamemode changes came across as abrupt to me, such as at 0:45, where the gameplay appears just in time for you to react to it. In addition, although not a major issue, I would have made some of the game-mode switches more fluid with portal fixes, I may just do a tutorial on how to do these at some point.
All-in-all this level serves as a refreshing throwback to a classic 1.9 style. Even with limitations of effects in 1.9, Moonlchan still managed to make a lively and enjoyable, nostalgic level. Awesome work! I hope you will finally get the CP you deserve! :)
