In this presentation, we will give an overview of the cyber-threats undermining electrical power grid substation cybersecurity and the impact that a successful cyber-attack can have on the stability of the grid, with a focus on digital substations implementing the IEC 61850 standard.
Through the analysis of real-life cyber-attacks happened in the past decade, we will get insights on how cyber-attackers operate and how critical infrastructure can be protected with standard and advanced security measures.
About the presenter:
Nicola Cibin (Delft University of Technology) received his B.Sc. degree in Information Engineering and his M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications Engineering from University of Padua, Italy, in 2019 and 2021, respectively. After working as a research assistant at Aalborg University, Denmark, from 2021 to 2023, he joined the Cyber Resilient Power Grids (CRPG) research group at TU Delft, Netherlands, as a PhD student. His research interests include telecommunication networks, cybersecurity, smart grids, and blockchain.

InnoCyPES Summer School 2024: Exploring the Cyber-Physical Evolution of Offshore Wind and Distribution Grids.
The programme focused on innovative and key topics for the future of power systems: IoT-Edge Networks, Cybersecurity, Data Management, Power Quality, and Grid-Forming Inverter-Based Resources and Stability.
The event was hosted at the Università del Salento in Lecce, Italy, from September 9th to 13th, 2024.
