Back Button Assist turns your Wear OS watch's physical back button into a simple, timing-independent switch — an accessibility aid for people with motor impairments who can't reliably control how long they press a button.

On Wear OS, a quick press and a press-and-hold are two different commands. If you have hand tremor, reduced grip strength, spasticity, or limited fine-motor control, that timing is hard to control — you trigger a long-press by accident, or can't hold long enough. Back Button Assist removes the timing requirement: set the long-press to do the same thing as a normal short press, so the button does what you intended no matter how long you hold it.

♿ WHO IT'S FOR
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
People with motor impairments affecting button control — from arthritis, Parkinson's, essential tremor, cerebral palsy, MS, or post-stroke weakness — who find a timing-dependent press-and-hold unreliable.

📲 HOW TO SET UP
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Install the app and open it on your Wear OS watch
Tap "Enable in Accessibility Settings"
Under Downloaded Apps, enable Back Button Assist
Return and choose what the button does — mirror the short press, open an app, or Home
Optionally configure bypass apps
Hold the button to try it — done!

🔑 WHY IT NEEDS THE ACCESSIBILITY PERMISSION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Detecting a physical button press system-wide is only possible through Android's Accessibility (filter key events) API — there is no other API for it. The permission is used solely to detect your button press and perform the action you chose. It does not read screen content and does not collect or share data.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
🔒 PRIVACY
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The accessibility service runs entirely on-device. No personal data is collected, transmitted, or stored. The only data saved is your chosen action preference in local shared preferences.
