Blocking ads on Android can significantly improve your browsing experience, save data, and even increase battery life. There are several ways to go about it, ranging from built-in browser settings to dedicated apps and DNS services.
1. Using a Private DNS
This is a highly effective, system-wide method that doesn't require installing a specific app or rooting your device. A Private DNS (Domain Name System) service blocks ads by routing your network requests through a server that filters out known ad-serving domains.
How it works: When you try to load a webpage or an app, your device sends a request to the DNS server to translate a domain name (like www.example.com) into an IP address. An ad-blocking DNS service has a list of ad-related domains and simply doesn't provide an IP address for them, preventing the ads from loading.
How to set it up:
Go to your Android's Settings.
Tap on Network & Internet or Connections (the name may vary).
Select Private DNS.
Choose the Private DNS provider hostname option.
Enter a hostname from a trusted ad-blocking DNS provider, such as:
dns.adguard-dns.com
dns.adguard.com
us.adhole.org
