One of the most common mistakes I see independant artists make when marketing their music is only focusing on trying to find ways to get people’s attention. More often than not they completely skip over the details of WHO they want to attract, WHERE, those people are, and WHY they should care enough to give you 30 seconds of their time.
Instead you should try and focus on each one of these steps in order:
1) Find Your Ideal Fan: Identify and understand your target audience. Where do they spend their time? What are their habits? Which platforms or channels do they frequent?
2) Get in Front of Them: Once you’ve located your audience, position yourself or your brand on those platforms. This could be through ads, content, influencers, or direct outreach.
3) Grab Their Attention: Stand out from the crowd. Use captivating content, striking visuals, compelling stories, or unique offers that make your audience take notice.
4) Communicate in Ways That Resonate: Speak their language. Tailor your message to address their needs, desires, and values. Connect with them on an emotional level, so they feel understood and valued.
By following these steps, you can not only capture your audience’s attention but also build a lasting relationship, making them eager to engage with your new releases repeatedly.
