First make sure the liquid yeast is stored at a cool temperature.
Second, verify that the yeast packet contains an adequate amount of yeast for your specific beer. Given the variation in packaging and shelf life across different yeast producers, determining the exact quantity of viable yeast.
Last but not least, prepare a yeast starter to increase the yeast quantity if your brew has:
1) A starting gravity (OG) above 1.050
2) A volume exceeding 20L for the fermenter
3) Or if the yeast packet's best before date is within two weeks.
Now your brew has sufficient yeast for optimal fermentation.
