This is a step-by-step Mac gaming tutorial showing how to install and run Helldivers 2, a co-op third-person shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios (published by PlayStation Publishing LLC / Sony Interactive Entertainment) using CrossOver 26 + Steam on Apple Silicon (M-series) Macs.
CrossOver 26 includes game fixes for Helldivers 2 plus major tech updates like D3DMetal 3.0 and DXMT v0.72, which is why this method is now viable on macOS.
Crossplay: Helldivers 2 supports crossplay (PC ↔ PS5), and the Xbox Series X|S version launched Aug 26, 2025 with crossplay support as well.
No cross-progression: your progression doesn’t carry between platforms.
Important notes (before you install):
• Apple Silicon only (M1 / M2 / M3 / M4 / M5). If you have an Intel Mac, use Boot Camp and play Windows natively (if your Mac can handle it).
• Steam lists a required PlayStation Network account (linking) and the game uses nProtect GameGuard anti-cheat.
• Optional: I also show how to switch Steam’s game version to prod_legacy (vs Slim/default). Officially it’s meant for install-size differences, but in my testing it helped me with performance / frame pacing on some setups (results vary).
