In part three of a series, today we visit the mighty statue of Tlaloc which sits outside Mexico City's Anthropology Museum. It weighs 168 tons, making it the largest stone monolith ever carved and transported in Mexico. It was originally located 29 miles away in Coatlinchan, an Aztec capital. Hugh Newman shares the legends, stories and facts about this masterpiece that dates from around 800 AD, but is it really Aztec, or carved from an earlier Olmec statue, or does it come from the Teotihuacan area? And does it really represent the Rain God Tlaloc?
