Since I found out many newcomers to #macOS and OS X have troubles adapting to the new environment from Windows or Linux, I thought I should make some beginner-level #tutorials as well. This video will show you how to make password protected folders for your work files on your macOS or OS X computer. macOS doesn't have such option by default. It is peculiar, considering that macOS is more geared towards businesses and offices than to gaming. One would assume the option to password protect a folder should be built-in, however, it is not.
So how do we do it then?
We're using a trick in Disk Utility, a tool that comes preinstalled on macOS, to build an encrypted DMG (disk image) of the work folder we wanna protect. By making the DMG file read/write, we are able to update its contents on the fly without having to redo the encryption. This is an unofficial method to password-protect a folder on macOS and although it may not be the most convenient, it doesn't require any 3rd-party software to be installed, which I find good.
