The death of Qui Gon Jinn at the hands of Darth Maul was one of the most shocking events in the Jedis history. Not only had the Sith returned after a thousand years, they had killed one of the orders most skilled members. At first, many Jedi were panicked by the news, believing that there could potentially be thousands of Sith waiting in the shadows. Although this was eventually proved false, the Jedi still chose to hide the Siths' return from the public as they feared it would cause panic. This dishonesty was one of the main reasons that Dooku left the order, as he believed this lie prevented the Jedi from properly rooting out the Sith.
